A collection of recent vertebrate crania and skeletons

The collection of recent skeletons and crania are primarily of specimens that have been collected from Norwegian land and waters. The oldest skeletons are from mid Nineteenth Century, but the majority of specimens have been collected in the later part of the Twentieth Century. The collection contains at present 1827 fish skeletons, ca.40 toads and reptiles, 3696 bird skeletons and 8525 mammal crania or complete skeletons. Among the mammal specimens 199 crania and horse skeletons and 94 whale skeletons are of especial value. The whales were collected during the late the Nineteenth Century, and 22 skeletons plus 2 crania , representing 18 species, are mounted and exhibited in our museum. The Museum offers a searchable database for these specimens.

In the database you will find the following classes represented; mammals, fish, birds, toads and reptiles, whale in exhibition.
