THE STONE
The Eggja stone is exhibited on the ground floor of the "Historisk museum" at University Museum, Cultural History, near the exit of the Viking Age exhibition. Today, it is placed in a display case at floor level with natural light coming in from the side. The runes on the stone are intermediate versions between the elder and the younger futhark.
A sizeable body of literature has been produced on the find of this stone, and a number of different interpretations have been proposed. On these pages you will find one.
